Justification for Open-pit Mining

A mid-size mineral mining site typically employs about 20 dump trucks. After running on diesel for over 20 years, these dump trucks are now facing issues such as increasing diesel fuel cost, high maintenance and repair cost, and decreasing working efficiency. Not to mention, these trucks are huge contributors to pollution and unsafe working conditions.

ELECTRIFICATION CHOICE FOR MINING OPERATIONS

On average, each mining dump truck’s diesel cost is around AUD 133,000 every year, which is a heavy burden for the mining site. The average maintenance for each vehicle costs about AUD 406,000 during a diesel engine’s 8-year life cycle.
Due to the diesel engine’s thermal efficiency, a dump truck’s combustion efficiency is only 20%.  Low combustion efficiency causes the vehicle to pause between 5 and  6 times a day to refuel, which lowers working efficiency. The attrition rate of diesel engine components is high, increasing the frequency of repairing.

An electrification option will eliminate an estimate of 260 tons of CO2 release every year.

MODULAR, SAFE, AND COST-EFFECTIVE CHOICE FOR MINING ELECTRIFICATION

To reduce the number of coolant piping, modules  are stacked together tightly, leaving a continuous flow channel for the coolant.

The entire system are designed to be leak-tight and leak-tested.  The battery cells are directly immersed in a nonconductive, non-flammable, and nontoxic fluid with a dynamic flow rate across the system resulted in uniform temperatures across the module's cell.
